Largest in Europe

With an annual throughput capacity of 9 million TEU, a quay length of 3.7 km, and a surface area of 242 ha, MPET is largest container terminal in Europe, accounts for more than 50% of the Port of Antwerp's total container volume and handles some of the world’s biggest ships.

Safety first

MPET’s top priority is to provide a safe working environment for staff, customers, and contractors. The terminal is committed to continuous improvement, implementing new technologies and technical developments to advance processes, and improve the working environment.

MPET holds frequent awareness campaigns and safety talks & walks to cultivate and grow the safety culture within the workplace. Considerable attention is also paid to workplace ergonomics, with adapted chairs in carriers, cabins, and offices.

In addition to the safety of its people, MPET operates 24/7 to ensure the security and safety of cargo. MPET holds a certification from the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS), which means that the terminal has been identified as ensuring the security of the International Supply Chain.

Continuous improvement

MPET strives to constantly optimize productivity and efficiency:

The terminal has automated the process for loading and offloading containers on trucks and implemented proven technologies such as Optical Character Recognition (OCR), automatic gates, and paperless registration in order to achieve record truck turnaround times.

For a speedy connection to the inland waterways, the terminal handles up to 30 barge calls a day. And with several daily arrivals and departures, the terminal also excels in railroad shipments.

With dedicated specialized teams and a highly skilled workforce, MPET has all the expertise needed to deal with any special customer requests.

Sustainability

To reduce the terminal operations' carbon footprint, MPET purchases green electricity to power all equipment and facilities. All their consumed electricity is generated by wind turbines off the Belgian coast. The terminal’s vehicle fleet is also being progressively replaced with electric vehicles, and the number of hybrid equipment is increasingly growing.

MPET also has a water management system in place, which includes collecting rainwater to be used for sanitary facilities and for equipment cleaning, treating wastewater, and recycling.

MPET’s social responsibility extends well beyond the port of Antwerp, as MPET strives to support its community financially, logistically, and through volunteering initiatives.
